Brake calipers are one of the most important active elements of the brake system of a commercial vehicle. The heaviest vehicles use pneumatic brake calipers, whereas the lightest ones use hydraulic brake calipers.

When performing service braking, in hydraulic brake calipers, the fluid coming from the brake pump increases its pressure and is displaced through the hoses to the brake caliper. 

This fluid pushes pistons that, at the same time, press the pads against the disc, which causes friction between the pads and the brake disc and transforms the kinetic energy of the vehicle into thermal energy, which dissipates into the environment. 

The high temperature reached by the caliper, apart from other factors, leads to extreme working conditions for the brake caliper. For that reason, it is essential to revise that all the sealing and protection components are in perfect state after changing the pads, since they affect directly the life of the product.
