Both of them are essential components in the pneumatic installation of commercial vehicles. Its function is detecting the air pressure and turn it into an electrical signal sent to the electronic control unit (ECU). In systems such as brake and suspension, knowing the pressure levels in tanks and valves is key to properly manage the safety and stability of the vehicle.
The main difference is in the type of information they provide:
Pressure switch (oil pressure switch)
It works as a switch with discrete output (ON/OFF).
It switches and generates a warning signal when the pressure reaches or exceeds a pre-set threshold.
It is used, for example, as a protective measure against brake line overpressure or to activate warning lamps/alerts.
Pressure sensor
It integrates more advanced electronics.
It measures pressure continuously, providing a proportional value at all times.
It is used when it is necessary to know the pressure accurately for control and regulation of the system.
Although in some cases their appearance may be similar, understanding these differences is critical to selecting the right component and ensuring proper installation.
