In modern commercial vehicles, the differential pressure sensor plays a crucial role in the exhaust gas after-treatment system. Its mission is simple but vital: to measure the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of the particulate filter (DPF).

Thanks to this information, the vehicle's control unit can:

• Detect the degree of saturation of the filter. When the DPF fills with soot, the inlet pressure increases and the sensor registers this accurately.

• Activate automatic regeneration. If the filter is still recoverable, the cleaning process is started to burn out the accumulated particles.

• Warn to replace the filter. When the regenerations are no longer sufficient, the sensor warns that the DPF needs to be changed to avoid serious damage.
