According to UNECE R13 regulation, the handbrake or parking brake must be performed mechanically, regardless of the service brake system. 

Hydraulic calipers, assembled in the rear axle of the vehicle, include a special mechanism that turns the force applied by the driver into a greater force, capable of immobilising the vehicle.
