Exhaust gas temperature sensors have different functionalities depending on whether they are installed in petrol engines or diesel engines. Their mission in the first ones is to protect critical components from high temperatures. On the other hand, in the second ones they are used to control the temperature of the diesel particulate filter or the catalytic converter, ensuring that combustion is taking place efficiently and free from pollutant emissions.

This type of sensors works under excessively high temperatures (up to 800°C). Therefore, it is important to select carefully materials capable of standing these temperatures. Besides, they stand strong vibrations that might disconnect the internal terminals and cause failures in the sensor. For that reason, a proper assembly process is essential.
